I had a root canal when I was in boot camp. Three times in teh chair for drilling. Not one shot of Novocaine. Hurt like a MF.
I hear you say WTF, well I was a private and the dentist had captain's bars.

Wat. Maybe for you. I was out of commission for like 2 weeks. Had them done in college. All 4 at once. My tops weren't horrible, but my bottom 2 were fully perpendicular to the rest of my teeth... the oral surgeon said it was the worst extraction he'd had to do in his career.

I felt special
Just sounds painful!

Do they put you to sleep or are you awake the entire time?

Oh I was under for the procedure. The worst part was when that wore off. woke up puking, cause apparently i'm mildly allergic to whatever they used for anesthesia. Know what's REALLY good for a mouth full of gauze and bleeding gums from missing teeth? puking. yup.

Fine, FOR ME it was nothing. I remember waking up in a wheelchair outside and being like, "I can get into the car myself". I was wrong.

I was also pretty dehydrated afterwards. Other than that it was just a big inconvenience not being able to eat what I wanted.

Same thing happened to me...all four of mine were impacted as well, and add a dry socket to go with the puking. Talk about two weeks of suck...

I've had exactly one root canal. Had part of it done by a hottie Korean chick (a Navy Lieutenant Commander, no less) in a tent in Kuwait. She did enough work to get me by until I got stateside to finish the job. My dentist referred me to an endodontist.

Those guys make a killing. Due to the number of digital xrays involved, mine was able to work on five patients at once. Based on what he charged, I'm guessing that he grossed about $15,000 minimum in three hours.

When I retire from the Army, I'm going to dental school.
