Default Best way to learn welding?

For those of you who know how to weld...how did you learn?

I've tried looking up classes at my local community college but couldn't find one?

I just think it would be a useful skill to have.

Any suggestions welcome.

My dad and I knew a guy that owned a frame shop close to our house. He taught us 2 nights a week for about an hour and only asked for a 12 pack of Coors for every lesson. After about a month I got it down pretty well and started fabbing up things at home to practice.

There's a small automotive technical school near me that teaches welding. Perhaps look for something like that.

i welded while i was in high school, i made the the things that go under roads,...made of rebar,....the trick to welding is getting the welds to hold,...so once u weld a bunch of crap together, throw it on the cement ground to make sure they hold,...if they dont,...retry it till you know what you were doing wrong. a steady hand is a must, aluminum is way more difficult than anything.
i dunno, just get someone to let use a welder for a second, its easy to do, just a little harder to per-fect

To weld your s2000 doors shut you will need:

4 wire coat hangers
1 fully charged marine battery
1 pair of kitchen tongs wrapped in a sock (for safety)
1 set of jumper cables.

Step 1:

You'll figure it out. (Just make sure you only hold the tongs by the sock)

For starters: If you have a High School Diploma, get rid of it and get a GED.
