i found some alpinestars textile jackets for $150-$180... still within my budget. are these just total pieces of crap? summer only? should i even bother buying one...? you guys are saying over $500 but i haven't really even found anything that expensive. most are like $300-$400, but i've only been looking at alpinestars. what are other good brands for sport bike gear? i don't think he needs one of those full leather joints just yet, just a nice jacket.

For guys, your leather riding jacket is a fashion statement. The whole bike/jacket/helmet "look" is important to his "image".
I think you had better leave the jacket to him.
Why not get him boots or "rainwear" to fit over his leather attire.
