A bit of philosophy - do you agree with this?

Lee355, wow, I'm impressed. I never thought I would read Daisaku Ikeda on this forum. As far as agreeing - yes 100% I agree!

Daisaku Ikeda is the world leader for the Soka Gakkai International. An organization/faith/philosophy I'm proud to have been a part of since 1985.

Not sure if I agree. It may work for some people, but not others. I've had better luck with "The Discipline of D.E. (Do Easy)." Sometimes we fail because we make things more complicated than they need to be. Clear your mind, break the situation down, reach to goal in the shortest, most efficient manner possible.

Don't listen to me, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I did hear this somewhere once though.

This reminds me of the TV commercial that says, "A Ranger never takes the easy way."

I've always sat there, watching them trudging through ditches and mud and wondered, "Is this because they're not smart enough to take the easy path when it's more appropriate?" It reminds me of the comedy of Indiana Jones shooting the master swordsman in "Raiders." However, back to the subject at hand...

Adversity brings growth. This is news? Plants grow without rain?

I'm sorry for discounting this as "supreme truth," but even jocks and gym rats know the old "no pain--no gain."

This smells a bit like recycled material from a defunct management seminar.

Sounds like the words spoken by a poor/underpriveleged person. I respect hardworking people, but that alone does not make someone outstanding. Everyone has challenges and hardships it's all perspective. I bitch about working a 14 hour day, but I have a house to go home to and an s2000 do drive to the house in, and a beautiful wife. To me the 14 hour day still sucks. I'm sure a homeless fellow looking for his next meal asks, what am I bitching about, but hey it still sucks for me.
It's all perspective.

Is my perspective warped. It depends on what one would call the norm. Mine is just different. I had a nice live with alot of things given to me, but I also worked for alot of things and earned things myself. So I'd have to say that that philosophy is BUNK!

I think some of you might be forgetting that this is directed at youths. This phrase is directed at those seeking a fulfilled life, not those seeking a comfortable one.

Your 14 hour workday can be changed. Anything can be changed. Where would you like to be in your life? Why are you not there?

I was a pampered youth, I developed well but didn't go looking for hardship, not to say I didn't encounter any. Some of the hardships I encountered didn't make me grow or stronger, they (like growing up with racism being a brown person in Mississippi) just stunted my growth and retrospectivly make me hate.

Where would I like to be right now, I'd like to be a retired billionaire. Why am I not there? I can't figure out which lottery numbers are going to come up.
