Given how most socks are made. Wash them the first time to get rid of/reduce the sizing and formaldehyde right-side out, and then reversed each time afterwards.

I was definitely thinking the white lint hides on your pasty feet.

I have noticed the same thing myself, though. Nothing bothers me more than having lint in my socks. Every morning before I put them on I turn my socks inside out and shake the hell out of em. I end up having to vacuum every 3 days but comfortable socks = a happy Mikey.
