The solution is that I wash all my socks inside out before I wear them. This allows the material to swell and fluff while washing away any leftovers.

Thanks Tim, great suggestion and one I'll follow since I recently received many socks for Christmas.
I was definitely thinking the white lint hides on your pasty feet.
I have noticed the same thing myself, though. Nothing bothers me more than having lint in my socks. Every morning before I put them on I turn my socks inside out and shake the hell out of em. I end up having to vacuum every 3 days but comfortable socks = a happy Mikey.
