Blackhawk Down...holy cow
Why are the somalis and iraqis ingrates? Because all they know is that OUR embargos kill their people by not allowing food to enter their country. That our troops and our planes kill their people, and destroy their buildings. These countries have horrible, ruthless leaders that do not allow them to have their own opinion or gain the education needed to see the oppression their government puts them under. But they do see our planes flying over, our troops "meddling" in their business. Their leaders are ingrates, I don't think the people are. They are just following what they know, pretty much what I bet you do too.
And Tedow, I agree with you to a point. I think what we don't understand over here is how important religion is to the countries of the Middle East. If you believe in religion or not, it's a very powerful motivator and we as a nation need to understand that fact. And why is it sometimes a good thing that we meddle in others business. How would you feel if Iraq had battleships in the Chesepeake? I actually do feel a lot of the way you feel, it's just I'm trying to have a better understanding why a country that helps so many is hated by so many.

PS - I'm sure when I see the movie, I'm going to feel the exact same way you do. I just haven't seen it yet.

They interviewed 2 army Rangers that served in Somalia on CNN or Fox (i can't remember which). The 2 Rangers both liked the movie. One of them said the only thing he wanted to clarify was they portrayed some of the people in kind of the wrong light. People were more cool headed than they were in the movie he said, not so dramatically over-reacting and such. He mentioned a few names from the movie, but i can't remember them. The chopper pilot who flew them into the missions was one of them. He said that guy was always calm, and flew into every encounter.
I'm gonna go see it soon.
Thanks for all your good opinions.

I think the movie wasn't really about Somalia or the mission, I think it was about the heroism of the
soldiers under fire. The two Delta snipers were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for their
knowing sacrifice. http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/mohsom.htm
This is one of the few movies where the actors actually look like soldiers.
I would like this movie to be required viewing for all High school Seniors.
This is what war is like kids, even when it's just a U.N. relief mission in
a unknown little country.

It's a shame to get bogged down in trying to understand people that don't think rationally. It's actually very simple, IMO: Losers always resent winners. There will always be winners and losers. Losers can become winners if they try hard enough. There's nothing remarkable (or respectable or even interesting) about losers hating winners. What's amazing is to have two individuals from the winners' team that are so utterly dedicated to their values, and that are so unwilling to rest on their previous success, that they would literally beg to be inserted into a situation that would almost certainly get them torn to shreds at the hands of a bunch of losers. That sort of attitude is what seperates the winners from the losers. And yet, some people on the winning team will always want to kow-tow to the losers out of a sense of their personal guilt for reaping the rewards of winning without actually having made a sacrifice themselves.
I'll get out of this discussion before I offend any more "sensibilities".
