Default Blue tooth question...

I am having a heck of a time synching my blue tooth to a Cingular blackberry and to a Razr T-Mobile...

Can a blue tooth be synched to 2 different items? If so...how do you do it? Thanks for your help!!

You mean two-at-once? Hmm, good question. I've only attempted one connection at a time (phone to car, Palm to phone) and I deactivate the Palm BT when not in use to save its battery.

i don't think 2 phones have the required profiles to sync to each other. I've never seen that done.

I'd sync one to the PC and then set the second to sync to the PC.

Remember bluetooth is a cable replacement technology...it is NOT A NETWORKING PROTOCOL.

I know...but I had hope...I thought that maybe since, in some cases, you could use the same "hands free cordless for one phone and for another, that you could, in theory, use the same one for 2 different phones...

Ok, you guys would have to admit it would be cool... I just don't want to look like an alien with 2 blue "teeth"...

Bluetooth should sync with any other device period - that's the beauty of it. Unfortunately, the phone companies limit the technology on their phones sometimes. Verizon just lost a class action because it blocked bluetooth unless you went through its pay service.

In theory, you have to turn on bluetooth on each device, and then make at least one discoverable - meaning other devices can see it. If the two devices have never synced before, you have to pair them, which is like adding someone to your buddy list. Then, if you have a file, you just send it to the other device using whatever system is on the device that has the file. You can have many pairs between devices, just like AIM buddy lists.

Ime, this works flawlessly in everything except cell phones, because carriers want to make money on phone features they block it and use proprietary file formats.

saki is right. there are 2 sides to the crippling, though.

the bluetooth organization licenses profiles to each device, and they CHARGE FOR EACH ONE. That's one reason cell phones don't have all the profiles. Still, the cell phone companies don't want you to have all the profiles, either. For example, if you have the networking protocol, you could use the wireless network to surf the net on your laptop.

cell providers obviously don't want you to do this...unless they get a cut of the action. Still, I've never heard of being able to pair 2 phones in a peer-peer network...I doubt you can do it with most phones, too.

confirmed...while you can use it separately and at different times while making each device recognize the bt every time you use it, it is not possible to have it paired with both devices at the same time...oh well...thanks everyone
