BMW Oil Change

If you could run a s2000 for 60k miles w/o an oil change I would be impressed.
That engine is NASTY.

20K is the normal oil change interval on a 3 series BMW. They use a special oil filter and special synthetic oil. That's why it costs $150 for a BMW oil change.
I suspect they may have used the wrong oil or filter. The computer determines when to change the oil based on milage and stuff.
I sense we aren't being told the whole story.

I also know a girl who tried to change her own oil and kept putting in quarts until it was full up to the top of the valve cover. In her defense, she was pretty hot.
the best thing to do, to at least salvage the engine, take 1/3 diesel 2/3 mobil 1 fill that sucker up run it for about 15-20 minutes at idle watching it very very closely, after the time is up shut it down and drop the oil pan and pull the oil filter and the valve cover as soon as possible clean out all the gunk
after fill it with fresh mobil 1, run it for 100 miles and change the oil again, repeat every 500 miles after that until it's clean

This guy is going to spend more money on oil changes in the next 1000 miles trying to fix the sludge problem than if he had just done the changes in the first place.
I'd pull the engine and tear it down, clean, re-lubricate, and re-install. There is no way you will get all the sludge out without causing further wear and damage to the engine by running solvents and degreasers through it.

I like how they are talking about whether or not the oil that they will use with the cleaner meets BMW specs. As if it matters at this point. You could probably put Wesson Oil in there and have more protection than he has had for the last 60,000 miles.
