Default body parts and organs

currently i am not an organ donor because i believe that if i ever get into an accident, the emt guy will see that i am a donor and not try as hard to save me.

we all know they are hard to come by. i am just wondering what you would be okay with. would you be okay if there was a organized market for them? if we had clones for the sole purpose of harvesting organs? if we harvested organs from inmates on deathrow (they do this in china already)?

i think its fine to grow body parts in test tubes as long as those body parts are not conscious. i also believe, we should start harvesting body parts from deathrow inmates. eye for an eye seems fair to me. yea its barbaric, but also very practical.

In being familiar with the whole organ donation and try to save thing. Your findings are ill founded and follow a general paranoia that is not unique. In fact the people who eventually become organ donors would already have to be dead (brain dead) to donate. If you have excessively low blood pressure during the rescue process the fact is that you may have destroyed your organs and they would be useless for transplant anyway.

Actually the emt might try harder to save you because if you are not a donor and are far gone then it's just you, but if you are a donor and are not too far gone then by keeping your vital signs stable if you end up brain dead your organs can help others, otherwise if not you'll be saved.

The fact is that if you are even close to being an organ donor in your health than most likely whatever life you have would be of very low quality (most likely 100% hospital dependent for living etc.)

Your clone idea is not unique, but of course would be contriversial. You should see the movie, THe Island. It shows one persons view of this situation.

how many people on death row in the US? How many ever get executed in a year? What is the method of execution, and would that affect the viability of the organs for transplant? I'm thinking it is no solution at all, and wouldn't help the situation one tiny bit. But then, I thought about it for a minute or so

Many prisoners who die in prison give their bodies to science, but ethically and maybe ironically you can't actually kill someone to take their organs.

So you could kill these people in a way to take their organs, but ethically it wouldn't fly.

To the OP:
So you want inmates to involuntarily donate, but you yourself don't want to donate?
Seriously... if you are dead, what do you need them for? Please go and fill out an organ donar card right now. After your death, you could save half a dozen people's lives!

inmates on deathrow most likey took someone elses life. in order to repay their debt to society, we should have the right to harvest them for organs. should they volunteer, we could cut them a deal, say 2 weeks of supervised freedom with a small stipend.

this approach would save the state money, help those in need, and is a form of justice (yea it might not be ethical).

say a guy kills ur mother and ur sister needs a new heart. i think it would be fine to harvest the killer for a heart to save ur sister.

btw, there many on deathrow right now. the waiting list for organs is very very long. even if u can only get 30 parts a year, its still 30 people saved.

in china, the gov will sell organs to israeli insurance companies, and even help find the doctors to perform the surgery.

30 being put to death doesn't mean 30 donors. HIV, HCV, etc disqualifies you from being donor.

per wiki, As of July 1, 2006, there were 3,366 prisoners awaiting execution in the United States. assuming a rate of 90% ineligible for donation to due any reason, 300 complete bodies would be up for grabs.

per wiki again, In the United States, the waiting list is quoted to be about 94,000 people long.[4] It is not uncommon for those on the waiting list to die before receiving a suitable organ.
