Well, it's almost apples to oranges. Roy fought a lot more traffic, and had an aresenal of electronics. Yates had an insanely modified van and a really crappy Fuzzbuster.

That said, get Yates' book; it's a good read.

There was an article in Wired magazine about a guy trying to beat the record in an M5(i think). For stuff like this, here is a good forum that covers most long distance "rallies".
