Default book talk: Female Chauvinist Pigs

anyone read this one by Ariel Levy?

the last book about how women use sex to get what they want was a mindful.

this one, every woman ought to read it.
It examines the phenomenon of modern feminism. how girls think that by acting like a man and being slutty is liberating. the thesis is that women compete with each other from a very young age to see who can be the sluttiest, garnering more male attention. and how it results in short term victory, but long term failure.

i often wondered how i would act if i was an attractive woman. would i flaunt my body, revel in the attention i get, think highly of myself for being momentarily popular. Or would i be ashamed to act in such a way. if i saw other girls being slutty, would i try to compete, even though i dont want to? the issue is so complex.

and in the end, do girls who act slutty lose out in the end? the author believes that they have shallow, difficult relationships and are miserable once they age and can no longer hold the attention they once could.

thoughts, please.

beauty is fleeting. if that is your only asset in attracting the attention and company of the opposite sex, then once that asset diminishes, you will have little to nothing to rely on to attract and maintain a relationship with the opposite sex.

Where the hell do you get these books? You do realize that women are people, just like men, and that, perhaps, as such, both sexes share many of the flaws which seem to be part of human nature? Wow! Maybe I should write a book about this stunning insight? These broad generalizations made by the fascinating literature you appear to read aren't worth the paper on which they're printed (assuming your characterizations of the books are accurate).

Man, you surely do pick the controversial books. You're cracking me up with these threads.

Honestly, I'm about sick of people making a ton of money off telling me what my common sense told me long ago. I don't buy them - never have (though I've been given one or two, to borrow), never will.

Everyone has to discover a new problem so that they can say they've found a solution. It's funny and sad at the same time. I can't believe people keep buying this stuff instead of just opening their eyes and making a few observations first hand.

Feminism isn't about "acting like a man".

I once read: "Life's not a garden, so stop being a hoe".

Well yes and no. "Alpha females" from what I understand are a mutated and skewed version of feminism.

It is their image that distorts what feminism actually is, just like how all feminists were labeled "dykes" at one time.

Most people's view of a feminist are skewed and think that women need empowerment through "man-bashing", "sexual dominance" and "open homosexuality".

But all feminism really is, is equality. It has less to do about the "action" and more to do about the ability to do the action. This mostly has to do with rational behaviors as most feminists accept that the woman's body is limited in physical strength. Meaning that most accept the fact that most of them won't be playing in the NFL.

I guess you can liken it to race relations. Did the Black Panthers do more harm than good by acting in their militant way? Well they certainly garnered a lot of attention, but it wasn't really the best attention. And for quite a number of people their perception of black equality was marred by their encounters with the Panthers.

To label these women as feminists really does a disservice to most other feminists. As it paints a picture that being slutty is ok if it falls under a feminist banner, it's not.

sorry u think these books are crap. i think the reason our society suffers from these problems is because men and women arent educated in these "obvious" issues.
