No, it's not a direct connection, I am too young for that.
I am only posting this because I have seen references to Bruce Lee on this website, in avatars, signatures, and posts. Also, because I think it makes our world seem a little smaller.
My judo sensei, Hayward Nishioka, was a good freind of Bruce Lee.
Hayward is a coach for our National team, referees at the Olympics, was a former National champion in judo and karate, 2-time Black Belt Hall of Fame winner, etc, etc, etc.
Hayward taught Bruce throwing and grappling, and Bruce taught Hayward punching and kicking.
Hayward says that Bruce was unbelievable, with regards to his speed. He also said that the stuff Bruce did on-screen was nothing, in comparison to what he could do off-screen.
Now that I've posted that pic of me, I'm LOL because I look so beat up from fighting with Hayward. This was my life, 7 days a week, for several years. You can see I'm really happy, though.
That's awesome - Bruce Lee has been an idol of mine for a long time. I'm checking out a few different martial art styles to decide which one is best for me. Today I'm heading down to a nearby dojo to meet with a 10th degree black belt in Kenpo... we'll see how it goes
great post...thanks for sharing i've always been a big fan of bruce lee. it's funny, just yesterday i was having a conversation with some of my friends about his amazing abilities. it's a shame that he was taken so mysteriously and at a young age.
I will be in Studio City the 25th, 26th and 27th of this month for training. I will be on Ventura at Studio City Martial Arts. Ninpo Tai Jutsu.
Lee355, If you are looking for an art, you may want to contact Mel Abraham in LA. He is a pressure point specialist who applies his skills to Karate kata and movements. He has trained with George Dillman for several years.
Give me a couple of days, and I will get you contact info for Mel. Mel used to train Ninpo with my instructor, that is how I know him. We bring him to Denver a couple of times a year for seminars. The stuff he does applies to so many different arts. It's not unusual for him to knock an uke out with two or three well-placed strikes.
