Very cool posts, guys! I have also been trained in Aikido for 13 years. Also did a little Muay Thai for a while. My shins and nuckles became as hard as rock. God, I love it! Very painful yet felt really good. Gotta find some decent pics of myself to post up here.
I love all martial arts, but esp. Kung Fu. I wish I could spend some time in China training with Shaolin monks. God, that'll be so awesome, but I guess I'll never have that chance. Besides, I'm too Americanized and materialistic to live with them. Just look at our cars!
But that's off the point.
Chuck looks pretty cool in that one pic. Bruce Lee was almost as tall as Chuck? Hmm... I thought Chuck was 6' or 6'1 and Bruce was 5'8"? Doesn't make a difference, just something I noticed.
Once again, very nice pics!

Is anyone in here local and would like to get together to do a little "practice"? It'd be nice! I can show you what I can do with some weapons, like a sword or nunchucks. Seven years of weapon training could do wonders.
Kodokan, thanks for the pm's. If I go to CA this summer, I'd love to meet up with you and we could have a little fun with your Judo and my Aikido. From my knowledge, Judo is somewhat similar to some of the Aikido styles. I'll let you know when and if I'm going. I usually go there once a year or so.

The Judo that I practice is competition Judo. Just like what you see in the Olympics. Throws, chokes, armbars, and pins.
I don't know that much about Aikido, but I've been invited to a few Aikido dojos in the past. One thing is the same with both Judo and Aikido dojos. When you go in as a black belt, you have to fight everyone in the place. The end of the workout usually ends with a "slaughter line" where you fight the whole school, from smallest to largest, non-stop.

No. I Never had the interest for Ultimate Fighting. Some of our other guys did, though. Joe Charles was an Ultimate fighter who trained at our dojo, as was Christophe Lienninger. We had some other guys do mixed martial arts, but not Ultimate.
I have fought in the open division at Judo tournaments, but since I am not trained formally with punching and kicking techniques, I would have to cross-train in order to do mixed martial arts, but my only interest is tournament Judo.
That particular Aikido dojo put me through one of the hardest workouts in my life. One of their instructors was also a Judo student of Haywards, who I had choked out in a demo fight downtown in Little Tokyo. When I showed up at that Aikido class, I had no idea that guy worked out there. It is a funny story now, but at the time I didn't like it. I was totally out of my element, with the multiple attacker thing.
I can hook you up when you come to town, but I retired over two years ago. That's how I ended up here. I've gone back to my former love of motorsports. I won't be doing that either in a few months, because I am starting Anesthesia School.
Once I reached a certain level in my professional career, I realized that I can't do both. I stop into my home dojo every once in a while to teach a class, and see the guys, but it's not the same anymore. It always makes me really sad to think about it now. I love Judo, but I have to eat, too. It's very difficult to make much money teaching Judo. I never paid a penny for my instruction, or charged one for teaching. That's the way it ought to be.
