Buffer Underruns While Burning CDs - Help!!!!!!!!
Why do buffer underruns occur?
And how can I stop/prevent them from happening?
I have a Sony 8X burner, and I used to use Adaptec Easy CD Creator...now I use Nero v. 5.5
Any thoughts?

try closing all programs when burning a CD. Basically, the internal memory buffer from your CD-Writer is being all used up because the CPU and Harddrive is trying to run too many programs at once.
Whenever I was burning a CD and had AIM open, it would just stop. I just close AIM and it burns perfectly.
This site is pretty useful for solutions to getting rid of buffer underrun errors.

Thanks...I don't have any programs 'open', but there's bunch of stuff in my System Tray that I could do without. I'll try disabling them.
I also checked out www.cdrfaq.org which was pretty interesting.
The weird thing is that at home, my 8X burner works fine, but at someone else's home, his 8X burner is faulty as heck.
Hope I figure it out today

You can also get a new burner with BurnProof technology. BurnProof will halt the burner if buffer underrun occurs. It will wait until the data stream is reestablished, at which point it'll find the last point it stopped and continue the writing process. It's buffer underrun proof.
If you're not already doing it, try making an image of the CD on the hard drive before you do the burn. Burning the CD from the hard drive is MUCH faster. Also, even though your burner can burn at 8x, you might want to set it to burn at 4x, 2x, or 1x instead. It will take lots longer to burn, but you won't make a stack of coasters in the process.
Hope this helps!

Solved the problem
All I gotta say is Nero v. 5.5 is God.
You can actually resize your buffer internally with Nero. After enlarging the buffer from 30MB to 75MB, all problems solved, and I can burn as fast as I want =)
But man, those Plextor 24Xs are bad-ass.

Have to agree with Suzuka2k on this one, but for those on a budget...all the $ is in the car
any Plextor product will do. They are just that good. I've been running their 8/4/32a since it was released and it burns with the best of 'em. (Just not at S2k speed)
