Building a house
Can someone with experience list some costs involved before building a house.
land has existing well and septic
will need grading and gravel for a preexisting 500 ft dirt path.
Builder takes care of everything after the OK is given to build.
any other costs besides home building that i cant think of?
anyone know how much it costs to do the driveway grading/gravel?
thanks

The building costs will vary greatly depending on where you live. There's no way to judge well from another part of the country IMO. One thing to count on is lot's of expenses after the house is built. Window coverings, landscape work, lawn mower, lawn tools, etc.
In the area I live in it would cost me as a builder at least $110 to $130 per sq. ft. to build and that's with no profit built in. To build a house for myself the way I would want it would run between $175 and $200 sq. ft.
I would hope for less in Raleigh.

I am in the process of building now, but like he says the costs will depend upon where you are and what you want done.
For instance the builder said my dirtwork would cost about $4,000, but I spent $14,000. That bought me a much better lot (same lot it's just more usable now), a pond and now I have room for a conventional septic system instead of an aerobic one which saved me about $6k right there.
I ended up being my own builder and I am currently building 2 other homes for other people. It isn't hard, it is just coordination of the trades.
In my neck of the woods $80 a foot builds you a heck of a house if you do it yourself, it would cost you $120 if you used a builder.
I am not talking tract type houses either, I am talking Custom homes.
Concrete driveways will cost you about $2.50 a sq foot here, but I have heard about costs in excess of $7 a foot for asphalt in the NE.
EDIT: Keep in mind that Texas is a "Right to Work" state so we don't have to pay those god awful, highly inflated, Union rates.
