What exactly is BAR?

Button was gaining on Michael in the last few laps. He lost by only over 10 seconds.

 

Do you mean what does BAR stand for? If so it's British American Racing(BAR), more Bristish than American.

Schumacher was slowing down to safe the car. Drivers with big leads usually slow down the last few laps. Plus, Button had to speed up because Montoya was giving chase.
