? on buying expensive watch off ebay/internet
Worldofwatches.com is a GREAT place to get a high-end watch. My brother and I have both bought watches from them and has had it certified buy our family "Rolex, Tag, Omega, etc... Jeweler" that it is the real thing! Only difference IS that the Serial Number is sanded off. Double the Warranty at half the price is great for me, but bad for Distributors and Wholesalers.
The secret to servicing your watch is to know a jeweler that has known you for a while and that you trust. Our family has gone to the same jeweler for 28 years now. Of course 24 of them are accredited to my parents. My wife and I are at a point where we can

If an authorized dealer is going to charge u 175 for a battery change, imagine if u need a new crystal or cleaning and overhaul. both 30 minute jobs and they are going to charge u probably 4-500. unless u have it under warranty, i wouldnt go through an authorized dealer. plus they keep your watch for weeks.
I have found a few places on the net that claim they always have the serial #s on the watches - no filing ever. Prices about the same as W.O.W.

This is an example from atlantic time. They seem to have a good selection. They discuss serial #s in the FAQ section at the bottom of the page.
Any thoughts on this place?
Mike

Tags, like all high-end watches, have serial numbers that the manufacturer can ID the watch with. If you're unsure about an internet/Ebay sale, make sure you don't buy from a seller who does not take credit cards (stay away from sellers who require money orders or cashier's checks), either by PayPal or some other merchant account. Otherwise you won't have any fraud protection if the watch arrives and it's a fake.

Hey, dumb question, but does anyone know what "automatic movement" is? There is no battery. Is this a watch that I need to wind everyday, or does it "stay wound" just by wearing it and moving it around? Thanks - Mike
