Did you see the videos of the HUGE number of supporters compared to the "rebels?" Do you question why Gadhafi would supply his citizens with guns to defend the capital if they truly hated him? It's a lot easier to just listen to what you're told and believe it, but journalists unaffiliated with the handful of major news corporations have a vastly different story.
It's also worth mentioning that Gadhafi wanted to get a larger royalty for the oil and was also considering only accepting gold for it instead of the (worthless) world reserve paper (USD). NATO isn't allowed to intervene -- with one exception being genocide.
