Default The cable guy just left...

Knocks on the door and hands me the new HD cable receiver. Wow! Super easy install -wiring was already attached to the box labeled... (he just watched as I crawled behind my tv...)

All I need is more content. It looks incredibly good. The box even looks cool.

I'm kind of bummed I waited so long. Could have watched 24 last night in HD!

It'll be cool to watch sports on this thing... 57" non-hd was kind of annoying to watch...

Make the call! (at least up here, there's no extra charge for the hd box. they include it in the digital cable package) There's a satellite card reader and a usb port in this box too. I've gotta figure out what else this thing can do!

Yeah, now you just gotta fix your freakin' VCR so you can tape 24 for me!!!

I still can't bring myself to pay that kinda money for mostly crappy programming...

FOX programming like "24" is not actually full-on HD. It's only 480p, but it still looks a lot better than ordinary 480i. It's in 16x9 aspect ratio, which in itself is an improvement. Be sure to watch "Firefly" on Friday night. It looks nice in 480p.

Do you get any 1080i channels like HDNet or HBO HD? If not, you ain't seen nothing yet.

I'm watchin' HBO HD right now. The picture looks fantastic. The programming sucks. The Showtime HD channel looks incredible as well, but the programming... leaves a bit to be desired too.

Bummer about the Fox HD. I was hoping it would be 1080! It would be nice to view in "real" 16x9! I'll be sure and check out "Firefly" Just one question: What is the show about? :-)

hehe... Brant - I think I need TiVo...

Firefly is a smart science fiction series. Very well written. Friday at 8pm they're running a special 2 hour episode that I think was originally supposed to be the pilot. Fox reordered the episodes before the series started.

If the only 1080i you've seen is HBO HD and Showtime HD, then you may not have seen it to it's full potential. They run mostly feature films converted to 1080i, and the results vary widely. At best, it looks very good and you can even see the film grain. At worst, some of the transfers are really lousy.

What you really need to see is something like HDNet, where they broadcast a lot of stuff shot with High Definition video cameras. That stuff is really frighteningly good. They have a weird mix of programming, but some of it is worthwhile.
