Im kind of interested on tinkering around with some 3d Modeling/CAD software while im off from work these days...

What is the most popular & Easiest to use so I can familiarize myself with such a process?

Im mostly interested on making a basic design for an idea I have

Also look into BIM software, it takes thing a step further instead of using lines to represent materials, you actually use building materials. REVIT is what Autodesk offers as far as BIM software goes.

I use Autodesk and SolidWorks.But if you just want to play around and not pay big bucks, then try google sketchup.

Sketchup is free and not too bad.

We use Solidworks; I learned it very quickly. It's extremely intuitive and has a large user base to help if you get stumped on something. Rhinoceros is supposed to be among the least expensive (and offered a free demo last I checked), but it isn't up to par with the big players.
