Pro-E is by no means easy. Solidworks is more intuitive, basic, and entry level. That being said, it works perfectly depending on your needs. I did a lot of designing and manufacturing with Pro-E, so I have gotten used to it and find it easy to use. BTW, I only use PRO-E currently because its on my work laptop, forget trying to buy a copy for personal use.

I had the chance to buy Pro-E through my school for stupid cheap (by comparison to its normal price), and yet still i was too poor to afford it haha

Catia is the flagship of Dassault Systemes, which also now owns SolidWorks. You can say that Catia is more powerful. With that being said, someone that wants to "get into it" won't be disappointed with SolidWorks in the least. I believe it is more powerful than you would ever need.
