Default Calling All Brains Calling All Brains... Is there a Formula For...

There are a few rocket scientists on S2ki that have used formulas to prove the benefits of a 17" wheel spinning out of control vs. 25" bicylce wheel spinning into a drift, so I thought it totally appropriate to ask you to help solve this daily dilemma which I still haven't been able to figure out yet...

Problem: A friend of mine sees that I've been busy at work (post whoring) and offers to help me with this dead bolt to a closet I no longer use. Not only does he fix it right, the damn closet looks brand new cause he put an extra coat of lacquer etc. etc. I said, John, you gotta let me pay. And you know what John says? "Ah just pay me what you think I'm worth!" Oh shucks! I want to pay the guy but I don't want to over pay the guy!? Is there a formula out there which I can use to figure out how much to pay???

here you go...
take this formula---(L*H*A)/T=How much to pay him
L=amount of lacquer used (in square feet)
H=hours spent doing it
A=age of your friend
T=your best quarter mile time

So here is an example... If he put 15 (?) square feet of lacquer on your door and it took him 4 (?) hours and he is 25 (?) years old and your best quarter mile time is 14 flat (?) then it would go like this- (15*4*25)/14=$107.14

Let me know what you come up with!

i think time to complete should be an inverse cubic relationship...you don't want to pay more if they take longer!

LTA/H^3

using the same values, that yields $82.03

What works great for friends instead of money is buying them something. Buy him a really good bottle of wine, or take him out to a nice steak dinner.

good call unabageler!! I wish I would have thought of that! That would save about 30% and it makes the equation look better!

Along Mark's line of thinking...

If you could do it but are too lazy, a case of beer.
If you could do it, but he did it better and/or cheaper, 2 cases of beer.
If you couldn't do it without a great effort or great expense, 3 cases.
If you couldn't do it no matter what you did, buy him the brewery

This works well in Wisconsin, at least
