I'm in the market for a gps system for my car. I'm not looking for the top of the line or most expensive one...rather around $300-$500. Any recommendations?

I use a TOM TOM blue tooth receiver with my palm pilot.

I'm assuming you are looking for more of a standalone unit. I think they are all pretty good. It's just about what features and which software you get along with the most.

I don't have any experience with auto-specific units, but I'd buy Garmin if possible. I've had their handheld units for years. Garmin's customer service is outstanding. And working with GPS units professionally I've found that Garmins are the most common units in the field - maybe not an issue for you, but compatibility with co-workers would be a strong criterion for me.

Happy shopping,
-Bob

I just read your last post more carefully. Congradulations on the purchase. I'm confident you'll be happy with it.

I bought a Garmin c340 about 5 months ago. It's a good navigation system.

Make sure the firmwire on the system is the latest version. Check online at the Garmin website.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm sure I can update my system via USB, right?

I got mine at Amazon. THey seem to have far better prices than www.tigergps.com, www.getfeetwet.com and other recommended gps sites. Plus it had free shipping too.

Yeah, you can use the USB cable for updating firmware and charging.
