Default Canker Sores In Your Mouth...........Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

These have to be the most painful little bastards. A few days ago while I was eating my pizza, I accidentally chomped down on my right-side gums...naturally it hurt.

Now that little mark turned into a canker sore...you know...those little 5mm scrapes in your mouth...it's so damn painful...

Anyone have any remedies to "cure" it?

I put salt straight on it...that's so torture, but it seems to do something...

There is no cure. Sometimes antiviral medications can lessen the length of time the lesion will last. Otherwise you have to deal. There are OTC (sorry, over the counter) preparations like Ambusol or one that I think works well called KANKA that you can get at any drugstore. These contain Lidocaine which is a numbing agent. The sore will go away in 5-7 days.

Thanks dude...the worst part about it is that I know it's gonna get more painful until it finally decides to go away after a few days.

gargle salt water in your mouth and the canker sore goes away pretty quickly

The gargle may help, but works better with a sore throat (larger swollen surface area). Salt Water works by bringing the swelling down.

Wow...seriously Listerine sounds like a great idea...I never woulda thought of that =) Thanks Bondgurl.

Nope...there are no bumps. I can best describe it as a 3-5mm "crater" where I bit my gums...

Seriously, those who've had them know how painful they can be.

(gets out his dagger) I'll cut the little bastids out....

As far as I know there, are three ways to remove them or at least dull the pain:

1) THe Listerine trick (damned bondgurl got there faster than I)

2) My grandma (r.i.p.) used to rubs crushed garlic on my dad's sores and said the oils and such in the garlic would help.. dunno if it ever did tho

3) Cauterization: dentist or oral surgeon takes a big bug zapper and effectively zaps the sore, cauterizing it and also making you scream like a banshee at the horror of the thought
