Listerine for 5 minutes?! Yow, I'd rather cauterize the little bugger . In all seriousness, I usually take the Listerine approach (not for 5 mins though), which seems to help a little.

Rinse it out with orange or grapefruit juice.

There is a steroid that you can get from a doc, I haven't gotten it (I get these things bad), but it makes them go away in 2 days. Truthfully, all the over the counter stuff is TRASH, it'll numb it as any topical anesthetic will, but that's it. Try swishing tea.

Orange juice DM said. One glass twice a day for 2-3 days and the sore will be gone.

When I was younger I used to dip a Q-tip into a shotglass full of salt. Then I press the Q-tip onto the canker sore. It hurt like hell, but it was interesting becuase the pain of the salt on the wound would make me forget the cankersore pain.

Nowadays I just use Listerine. Use that several times during the course of the day and it'll end up getting better.

Solution right here.

Get some stuff called Campho Phenique. Rub some where the sore is and wash your mouth out. You DON'T want to swallow this stuff. It'll numb it for a while, so just reapply when the numbing's gone.

open canker sores are usually caused by a deficiency in the amino acid called Lysine. you can buy this in the form of pills at almost any drugstore/supermarket where they carry vitamins. it will be right next to them. take a pill with each meal for a day or two and it'll go away.
