Default which canon camera

which one would you choose? i know that 20d runs a good 500 bucks more than the rebel xt, but what are some of the differences between the two, like iso and shutter speed? is it really worth it to pay a pretty penny for the 20d, or would you just simply settle for a rebel xt, and use what left over money you couldve bought for the 20d and get a good lens . i know that there are some great reviews on these two cameras, but i just want your guys' info on this. ive PMed a couple of members on here and theyve given me some great insight on the xt, but theres a 20d for sale in a different forum, and its got me debating on what i should get. any info helps! pictures would be nice too.. thanks guys

I think it comes down to what kind of photography your doing and your skill level/knowledge of cameras. If your new to digital photography you wont benefit anymore with the 20D then you would the Rebel XT. The 20D is a great camera and you will appreciate it more and more as you progress. Same is true for the Rebel XT as well, I guess it just comes down to if you want to drop the extra coin, both are great and will net you great results in your photos, the 20D just may seem overwhelming to someone new to photography.

I own a 20D, and have owned the original Digital Rebel in the past ... The 20D is a lot better than the original Rebel in terms of speed and stuff but from what I understand the Rebel XT has most of these enhancements as well ... Personally, the 20D is better in my opinion because it will allow you to start using the more advanced features as you learn more about the camera but will still do the same things the Rebel XT will do before you learn. In other words, when you grow beyond the capabilities of the Rebel XT, you'd need to upgrade to a 20D or 30D or 5D ... but with the 20D, you wouldn't need to upgrade, you could stay with the 20D longer.

But if you're not looking to pickup photography as a hobby or anything and you just want something that will take good pics, the Rebel XT will do just fine ...

And yeah thing really belongs in off topic or somethin ... but good luck with your camera purchase. I love my 20D ...

I'm also thinking of getting a DSLR, and trying to decide between these two.

Looking at the specs, the Rebel XT and 20D seems pretty close, I'm not sure that there's any feature the 20D has that the XT doesn't have. 20D is just slightly better than the Rebel XT in every respect (faster max shutter speed, more rapid continous shooting, higher resolution images etc).

I'm seriously considering a 20D though, mainly because I suspect I'll prefer its metal body over the Rebel's plastic body.

I tried the two out at the store. The 20d feels so much better - it's heavier, more sturdy, built with a different material, and has that awesome rotating dial. I also wanted the higher ISO capabality, I do use it all the time when shooting in-doors without flash (3200iso).

I think you should actually play around with both before you make your decision, almost like buying a car.

Well, for one, the 20D has 2 "wheels" for changing settings on the fly (important)... The Rebel XT only gets one, and a "shift" button which you have to hold down to make changes to the "other" setting if its anything like the original Rebel.

Another example of features you get with the 20D that you don't get with the XT is the 20D can select 4 different AF modes, while the Rebel XT can only select 2 modes, the other two modes are "auto-detected" based on the situation...

The 20D is also better suited for telephoto lenses because of its bigger size, the Rebel XT is kind of small, which is good for portability but bad for balance.

Also,

Check out dpreview.com. My first "nice" camera was a Sony-F828 that lasted about 2 years until I started to want an upgrade.
