Default Car accident tonight

One of my family members just called me to tell me they had been in a crash... According to them our car's rear is pretty messed up.

How do I prevent this from turning into a losing situation for us?

Because if it gets totaled, then that means we only get a fraction of what we paid for it, in the end we lose out since we 100% have to get a new car.
Our car's pretty new, 2007 I think ( Toyota Yaris )

Just kind of pissed that this happened, if anyone knows some stuff about this please post.

Thanks

The money you'll get is what the Yaris with similar year/mileage is going for in surrounding areas. Find the most expensive one from a dealership ad or something.

you don't deserve a new Yaris because your old Yaris is totalled.
you may receive some pain/suffering or medical expenses covered.

yeah, the toyota yaris is a pretty complex vehicle. there's no way the shop will ever get it to feel like prior to the accident.
