A car ran into my GF's office today!

Good fortune for your wife. I propose mandatory annual testing for drivers over 70 to see if they're still "all there". Unreal.
the AARP is a veeerrry powerful lobby.

that's why "senior citizen plows through farmers market" is becoming such a common summer news headline.

wow... simply wow... old people shouldnt drive... they're a hazard... much more of a hazard than us teens... i think my insurance should go down... and senior citizen insurance should go up... and yes to the annual drivers exam for the elderly... at least kids have their reflexes and eyesight in tact. -_-'
Old people: Maturity
Young people: Reflexes

Old people: Experience
Young people: Good hearing, eyesight, etc.

those are the only plusses in either category as far as I can tell.

On the downside, Old People suffer from a myriad of health problems contributing to poor eyesight, slow/no reflexes, and also are more prone to apathy when it comes to certain rules of the road.

Young people suffer from overconfidence, inexperience, competitiveness on a massive level, etc. I think the main difference is, old people frequently cause accidents while attempting to drive in a reasonable manner; whereas young people frequently cause accidents while driving in an unsafe manner. This is why insurance does go up as you get older (60+), but not as much as when you're a teen.

In New Mexico, senior citizens already have to renew their license every year. Gone are the 4/8 year renewal periods. I wish the rest of the country would do this.
