I want more income. I can do just fine without it, but I have needs, namely paying off the S2k, a 360 for Halo madness, and parts for said car

I used to work at a busboy, pulling ~$250 a week putting in 35 hours or so. Not great in the grand scheme of things, but very good for a first job. I currently work for a contractor, doing two things at the moment: siding and demolition(ripping sheetrock off walls and ceilings and getting covered in insulation). The pay is $10 an hour after taxes, which is quite nice. However, due to school and such, the hours are not as long as I would like them to be, nor is the work very consistent. I'm also getting a bit tired of dirty jobs, so to speak. I don't like getting the car dirty either.

I'm good with computers; I would love to work out of the house but that doesn't seem possible at my age. I've been told I am good at sales. I had some crazy ideas for some kind of ebay business - assembling gaming computers for sale, painting and reselling Wh40k and WFB minis for profits (I was pretty good at painting, but have no room now sadly. I was offered $20 for a figure worth 5) I'm pretty good at detailing cars as well. My brother did that for a bit. I do dual enrollment, and was surprised to find one of my classmates make $16 an hour at a hardware place doing next to nothing.

The thing is, most of these jobs require the prospective employee to be over 18. I'll turn 18 mid November, but I was looking to find something worth my while before then. Any suggestions? What did you all do around my age?

 

i used to work at baskin robbins. it paid 1 dollar above CA minimum wage + tips. But, for a while safeway (grocery store) workers were on strike, so i worked for 18 an hour for a while. it was a lot of money back then. but the best advice i can give is, study hard and go to college. also, u can caddie at the golf course.

 

I sucked it up until I finished school. Until then, bussing and waiting are some of the best paying jobs w/o a college degree.

There's another forum member that hustled and was pulling $1K/night in NYC bartending. . . that's some college money (and then some more).

you seem like a smart kid. try putting that smart into your education - you can get a big scholarship and that'll pay off way more than some S2000 or X360 will ever can.

 

I know a guy that couldn't afford the fancy things when he was young. He studied hard and worked occationally when it didn't interfere with his schooling.

He now makes $250/hour or more.

Education is where it is at if you don't have some god given talent for entertainment.

Dr. Martin XXX - MD, PhD, MBA, JD, CPA

the guy teaches part time FOR FUN and pulls in crazy money.

I agree with S2020 and S2000raj.

All the jobs I did before and in college were things that developed skill sets... well, except for working at the Children's Museum during senior year of high school... but that was a gold mine for picking up Au Pairs and hot Nanny's. Mmmmm Sweden....

maybe we're just old fogies...
