Ccie 7364
Hi, all,
For those who don't know, CCIE stands for Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert. I'm number 7364. Anyway, I'm looking to relocate from Boston to California and I am wondering how the job market is like over there. Right now, I'm mostly interested in job openings at an ISP.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
/Rog

I can speak for all of California but I work for an ISP - AOL Time Warner Communications -Business Division and things are looking up here. No layoffs but hiring freeze until budget is finalized for 2002.

Dallas and Houston are still holding strong on WAN routing engineers. Most of the jobs are in software development though. ISPs....well that area is hurting here unless you go with baby bell (SBC, Verizon etc)
Check out General Dynamics ..... They have a huge WAN project going with DOD and may need CCIE
Good luck

I think it depends on your experience more than anything else. If you already have lots of experience, I suggest that you go straight to CCIE. As for how much you can make with CCNA, I don't really know.
I work with someone who has only CCNA, but with 6 years of experience. I guess he's making somewhere in the $70K/year range. He knows just as much as me, but because he does not like to read/study, he does not have a clear concept on certain things; however, he was able to make things work based on his experience.
Basically, doing what you want/like to do will get you farther down the career path than any certifications. So, choose your jobs carefully.
Just my $0.02.

You're right about that spider! Have my CCNA and much experience, just don't like to study. But I'll keep plugging away at the CCNP and eventually the CCIE. BTW, congrats on obtaining your CCIE!
I likewise would love to move to CA, preferably southern CA. Live in Atlanta now and traffic here sux. Too many cars, no place to go.
