Default CD Ripping software

I'm using and old copy of Xing Audio Catylist 2.0 to rip CD's to MP3, and I can't seem to get the software to rip at anything other than real time, which makes for a VERY long process.

I have a Dell Dimension 8100, P4/1.7Ghz, and a NEC NR-7800A CD-RW drive. Oh yeah, Windows 2000 Pro service pack 3.

Any of you MP3 experts know how to speed things up? Or, could you recomend (cheap) software that will rip a bit faster?

Thanks -
