Go to www.travelocity.com and put in your own details. I just did it for those dates you indicated, and got a fare of $298. However, you will have to indicate how flexible you are (number of stops, etc.)

I use Expedia.com and lowestfare.com and usually end up doing pretty well as long as I have at least a week's notice.

Might also try www.cheapticket.com. Their toll-free number is 800-377-1000. Someone told me recently Delta had some incredibly low fares. The one he was considering was Houston-Boston for like $139. Can't remember the exact price but it was so low, was considering a return trip to the cape!

I would also try www.orbitz.com. It is a newer site with real good content. American had a flight for $351 direct, not quite as good as the $298.

One reason for the change in fares is that airline reservations usually cancel at midnight each day. Those holding seats for the cheaper fares have 24 hrs to purchase or request an extension. When the seats cancel out, the lower rates are again available providing the advance purchase requirements are met. There are also sales, published and non-published, internet only, etc., etc., etc. The airline business is ever-changing.
