Default Chevron and Shell

2003 S
Bone stock
50,900 miles

2 weeks ago I went to the local Chevron station to fill up w/ 93 octane. Right before I started to pump the gas I poured in a 20 oz bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner in the tank and then I swiped my card through it said, "all pumps off." I only like to use Chevron, because for some reason my S feels like it has more go to it and it has the Techron in it. So the next Chevron station was about 10 miles away, I had just poured in the bottle of techron, and it was in the opposite direction of home. So I went to the next best station in the area which was a Shell. So I filled my tank up w/ 93 and drove home. Throughout the week with that tank of gas my S seemed very sluggish. I remember my S feeling sluggish once before with the Shell, but didnt think much of it. After running the tank to empty I filled up with Chevron 93 octane and that next day I could tell a huge difference in the car.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue with Shell 93 octane gasoline.

Also I had my fuel injectors professionaly cleaned out yesterday and "WOW" what a difference. I will post an update to see if I get any better gas mileage.

20oz of Techron is overkill (Treats 20 Gallons).

The 12oz bottle is what you should have poured into your tank(treats 12 gallons).

We only get 91 octane out here in California, so that's all I can report on.

I find that all my cars (RX-7, S2000, Corvette) run better on Shell 91 than on Chevron 91. YMMV... I compared them back to back three tankfuls each. With Shell 91 my S2000 explodes into VTEC, but with Chevron I can hardly tell when I cross the 6k boundary. Chevron however results in a bit more stable and consistent performance on the low end. But I like the kick of VTEC more, so I go with Shell.

Also on another note, the Techron Concentrate is good stuff, but it is a cleaner not a fuel enhancer, so you can expect a car to run worse on the tank full with the cleaner in it than without. I use techron myself every 5-10k miles, but if I'm due and have a track, autocross or other important event coming up I make sure I use it at least 2 tankfuls before the event so I get back to having no cleaner in the gas tank by then.

50% of my fillups are with Shell 93 and I couldn't be happier.
