I prefer Shell but will take Chevron if needed.

Honestly, I can't tell much of a difference. I just like Shell's additive package.

Good replies.... I am going to run 3 tankfuls of shell and then 3 tankfulls of chevron and I will report back.

I notice I get more miles to the gallon when filled up with Chevron. There's not really a performance difference for me... so i go with the one that gives me more for my money (while still being a good brand).

I use both and UNOCAL and can't tell any difference.

The only time I notice any difference is when I use Meijer gas stations. I always end up thinking there is something wrong with my car for a week. Needless to say, I no longer fill up there. I prefer Shell V-Power when available.

i heard individual station owners can mix in more stuff than others...resulting in a diluted formula...is this a possibility?

I use both Shell and Chevron (nothing else ... cept in dire need of gas) and it does seem to me that the car responses slightly better when using Shell. It may just be my imagination but I swear the car does actually perform better on Shell. I do know that I get better gas mileage with Shell though. It's not much different but 1-2 miles more per gallon adds up.
