child support
Child support is on a case by case basis. The income of both parents is used to calculate the monthly expense for the child. From that monthly expense it is then divided up between both parents by how much each makes.
For instant, when I got divorced 4 yrs ago my sons calculated monthly expense was about $600 a month. Since the ex-wife wasn't working at the time (she played the system good) and I am in the military, I was calculated to pay 74% of the monthly child expense. So I only pay $434 a month.
The monthly child expense is varied by how much each parent makes. if you and the other parent is ballin, well be prepared to pay alot. If you both work at mcdonalds....well I feel sorry for the kid...lol.
On a serious note, if that number is honestly too high for you and you are able to prove it, the courts can lower it for you. If you can afford it, and you think you can't because you'll have to stop buyin stuff for your S, or you can't live the high life anymore, well you need to man up and should've thought about that before hand.

I'd check into some legal advice its absurd to have to pay that much especially when your kids mother makes so much more.
Not saying he shouldn't pay ,but $40k annual is alotta money for just yourself and a kid and than having daddy is kickin in another $7k.
To those that would argue...my sister and her husband support 2 toddlers on less than $35k a year.

Dont have em, dont want em. Its just not for me. Some people say its a joy, I see it as a chore and a expense. Besides, how many people have 9,10,11 of them? Im just balancing it out.
Im pretty sure we can all tell based on your wise assumption that $600 a month is way more than enough to pay the expenses for a kid why the chick bailed on you. Do you have really no understanding of living costs, especially for a kid? Are you forgetting that a portion of rent or mortgage, insurance, vehicle etc has to be allocated as living expenses for the kid (otherwise the kid has diapers and daycare but nowhere to live). If I were you id be spending all the money i'm not spending on the kid to win back the baby's momma so you don't have to fork over the dough anymore.
