Default Chime in if someone stole your CC #

So my wife had her number snatched a few weeks ago. I have been paranoid and check my online statement every day now as a routine, sure enough, this morning a bunch of charges.

They cancelled the card and I don't have to pay obviously, but I hate these tool bags. I know they claim to "Investigate" but I bet they do nothing and the perp gets off scott free. It should be easy to catch them, they ordered stuff online that would have to be shipped to them, and they charged a renewal fee to netflicks. Netflicks has to have an adress for them.

Its also happened to a few people at work in the last year. This is the second time its happened to me in my life, the first one some horndog charged several hundred bucks to spanktastic phone services.

I hate thieves.

I didn't have it happen with my CC, but my bank card.

They went to the bank and deposited empty envelopes and immediately withdrew a bunch of cash (roughly $3k) because my limits are all increased after having been with the bank for 19 years.

They sorted it out, but they did lock my account for over 3 weeks. I had a hell of a time with them because my paychecks were being deposited to that account (money could go in but not come out) and I missed several bills and pre-authorized payments from the account.

My insurance wanted to cancel me, I was getting charged interest and all kinds of things. A real hassle that eventually was properly sorted out, but the bank did not help much along the way. Made me feel like I was the criminal even though they indicated that they had multiple reports of cards being "compromised" after being used at a common retail location.

they charged a hooker 'escort' to mine. I agree they don't look too hard for the perps.

They don't look at all. Usually it's just, sign the paper that comes in the mail, and we'll send you a new card. Once my dad had his CC# stolen by some guy in Maryland who bought a ton of junk from Home Depot, filled up his car, AND ordered a pizza from Dominos...

It happened to me once also when I noticed someone had charged $300 to my CC from TMobile.com. I'm a Sprint user!

I am told that it was probably stolen when used online. Don't know if thats true. Only online purchase I have made with this card in MANY months was Tire Rack. But have no proof they have bad security. It could have been ANY place I used it.

go to equifax.com and put a "Fraud Alert" on your credit report NOW!

it will automatically send an alert to Trans-Union and Experian.

Due to travel, I use CC in soooo many places. Always have been worried about someone ending up using the card for no good :\

So far it's been ok, but I'll keep knocking wood for the time being.

I opened a checking account at Cap. One. When I gave my SSN to the woman, she told me that it was already in use (as she turned her monitor away from me). I had to get my Social Security Card to straighten it out.

The only thing she did was tell me it was a mistake, and someone accidentally typed my number in there in the past. I had to go back to that bank twice to sign forms and photocopy info. for them.
