just started dating this viet girl so hopefully her mom and dad throw me some cash

 

maybe $50 from the parents, but that's about it. all of my relatives are on the coasts (i'm in chicago) or in taiwan.

 

not much since i just started giving away money. how old are you to be getting 500-1000? im 19 and i seem to be giving away more money than im getting

 

I give out $300-500 bucks. This year I think I'll be generous and give out $1000.

damn 500 bucks, thats damn good. My wifey's viet and she use to get like 2-300 bucks, but w/her millions of cousins runnin around, we now give money away and receive very little. But our lil one gets the cash now!!

 

Can someone explain this tradition to me? I've never heard of giving away money on chinese new years.
