Do any of you guys get a Christmas bonus from your employer, or are they a thing of the past ?
Hmm... that's wierd. We didn't get Christmas bonuses until we took over this one UK company....

turkey for home, catered holiday meal and some cash - nice thought, I appreciated it... but the big bonus seems to be dying...no pool being put in the backyard at the griswold's this year...no jelly of the month either haven't had the $20k bonus since I left medical software...ugh

First job I had, we got a quarterly bonus, annual X-mas bonus, a bonus after each project, and an additional bonus if the client was pleased and commended us in writing (all the clients I've been with always gave written recommendations).

Also if we finished the project within the budgeted time, we got a bonus....the bonus was fatter the earlier we finished the project with no quality issues. The consulting company I worked for was based on their methodolgy consulting and expectation management....so the last bonus was always a given also.

If we were billable over 85% we got bonuses. If we were engaged on multiple assignments (client or internal), we got a bonus, overtime, AND comp time. Mind you, I don't think any of the consultants out of the Chicago office was billable UNDER 100%. If we supported a sales calls, bonus....if the sale closed, part-commission!

Any internal extra-curicular activities like: college recruiting, involved in new hiring process, work related social activities, corporate reporting, training class, fascilitating training, employee referral....all had bonuses attached to it.

If you were travelling over 75%, bonus....all our clients were outside of Chicago which required us overnight stays. Even the internal project I was on was based in Fairfax, VA.

Burn out rate was high....but due to the high comp time structure, everyone got a month off at a time.

My first year at that consulting company I made so much in bonuses that the total amount of tax I paid (from bonuses and my salary), equaled the net income I made from my salary. I think I made a lifetime's worth of bonuses that first year alone....

Since then, after leaving that company, I have made 0 bonuses. My next consulting company passed over the Chicago consultants on bonuses and never retributed us. Then I came onto the current employer, and there has been no mention of bonus here either. WTF........I think the bonus system is dead!!!

I work for a startup. No bonuses, which is OK with me - we want that venture capital to last as LONG as possible! I have worked at companies where we got bonuses - it is a nice perk. We do get lunch catered every day, though (as I sit and eat my slab of BBQ'd ribs and tri-tip, yummm).
