Default Cisco routing ?????

Trying to setup a Cisco router, I believe I have everything configured correctly. From the cisco IOS I can ping anything on the internet, and ping anything on my internal network. However, from my clients, I can't ping anything on the internet, nor can I ping any of my clients from the internet. Is there something I may be forgetting????

default route

ip classless

check these two first assuming your hosts can ping the router and the router can ping yahoo.com.

the default gateway is set as 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX, and it is ip classless.

can your hosts ping the router? the eth port? then have them ping the serial port. then have them ping the internet. work step-by-step outwards.

jeez, hrmmm, is ip routing enabled?

those Xs in the default route-- those are the remote gateway IP correct?

i know this sounds obvious, but your clients do have a default route/gateway set right?

The Xs are the default gateway. My hosts can ping the internal interface of the router, and from there they can ping the external interface of the router which is a public IP. but it can't go any farther.

The default gateway is set on the clients.

I think you have to add a statement to allow ICMP packets or something. I have been studying for my test but my day to day is shallow so I'm just guessing here.

It's actually allowing them out but not accepting them on return. If you try a trace route how far does it make it?

I thought you would be able to ping from the router itself but not from an internal device regardless of that statement. Again, just giving food for thought. Best of luck with it! Guess I better get back to the books too!

The host then shouldn't be able to ping the public interface on the router, they can do that too.

But your right...any ideas can't hurt ...
