Default comcast

why the hell is comcast so expesive? I have standars yes standard cable channels thats all and its $70! a month.
For those of you with other services with different companies how do you like it? and how much is it?
this is getting ridiculous paying 70 for standard channels not even 1 prem. channel.

Yeah, Comcast is waaaay out of line in pricing. Another thing I hate is that in order to get a lower rate with them, you have to have your bill paid in full before they will even disucss it.

I fell behind a couple of months and called them to tell them they were going to have to lower their rates, they said I'd have to bring my bill current. So I paid it w/ a credit card to get it up to date immediately. Then a rep told me that for full standard service plus the 'expanded service' and HBO plus my internet, they would lower it to $75/mo.

Now, that's a hell of a lot more reasonable.

Several reasons.

First, their costs for programming keep going up. There was a time ESPN paid the cable companies to carry it.

Second, in most cases, they are the only game in town so there's no imperative to improve service or reduce rates.

Third, per federal regulations, the local community cannot negotiate rates or specific content. Nice to have lobbyists helping write the laws to regulate your business. This was done in the early days of cable when there was little thought people would pay to watch what they'd been watching for free for the previous 40 years.

I pay $80 for digital cable with about 3 movie channels and a couple premiums. The digital box I have is garbage and should be given out for free by the cable company but they charged me $100 for it. I have 2 other TVs in my condo without cable boxes as well but I believe they allow up to 5 without further cost.

I am going to call and tell them to bring down the cost of things. I'm tired of paying roughly $130 with taxes each month to watch TV and have Internet access. Yes I have the TV on in the background but I almost never sit down to watch anything more than 3 or 4 channels. Tempting to reduce it to basic cable altogether.

Satellite is better I may go dish network and dump comcast.

I had SERIOUS issue with DirectTV and would never go with them again.

My monthly bill for Comcast is $145 which includes high speed internet, phone and HD cable with DVR and HBO. That seems high to me but it will go up because I am on a "promotional rate" for cable, my service will increase by $20 in a couple months.

So Warren, are you saying they just let you negotiate a lower rate?

Well I demanded it, saying I will go to Direct TV or Verizon. And I would have too if I didn't get a lower rate.

<--- $72.xx w/ tax for DirecTV w/ HD, and DVR package. I think they give you 1 basic box for free, then its like $5 per addtl basic box. They also gave me 3 mths of all movie channels free
