A Comet at Christmas
Some might enjoy this. On 12/09/01 I finally captured a beautiful comet that was discovered a year ago on film. The surprising thing was the colors it displays. Green coma and a red tail! Some have refered to it as the X-MAS COMET,--I think it fits.
Is that the new LINEAR designation comet now brightening ans at something like magnitude 4? If you captured this image in the night sky, give us details about scope, CCD camera (or 35 mm), etc. And when.
Sorry, I haven't been around sence I posed the picture. The Picture was taken 12/09/01 from my front yard in West Ar. It was a 6 minute exposure on fuji 800-G Hypered film. I used a Meade 10" SCT telescope at F6.3 and prime focuse. The guiding was on a star. Yes this is a product of Linear and this comet is now a southern sky object, I think. It has been cloudy here sence this image.

Great shots. Some of the guys that hang out at Mt. Pinos have Pictor 1616s and SBIG CCDs. They do some amazing stuff.
I like observing. It's like a drug for me.
We also chase solar eclipses. Have seen totality in Montana, Cabo San Lucas (Baja California, Mexico), Aruba, and Munich. Going down to Puerto Vallarta (west coast of Mexico) for an allular eclipse, I think in June. Got partially clouded out of an annular on Catalina Island (off the coast of LA).
Where's Fort Smith?
