When Ad-Aware tried to get rid of everything, did it successfully delete all the identified files? If you have stuff still popping up on your desktop, it sounds like to me that you still have some malicious programs running. If something didn't delete with Ad-Aware, than that could indicate that a program still had a lock on in and XP won't let you delete it.
Try running Ad-Aware again and see if it still finds anything. I had to clean up a computer once and we got rid of everything we could with Ad-Aware except for a few files. Ad-Aware couldn't identify what the program was that had the lock on the files it thought were bad. So, we popped open the Windows Task Manager and looked at the list of active processes. We went through the entire list and identified what each one was (this usually meant typing the program name into Google and see what came back). By doing this we narrowed the list down to two suspicious programs. Once we shut them down, Ad-Aware got rid of the remaining files. Problem was solved.
If you're still using Microsoft IE, make sure you're working in the Internet zone and have the security set to at least the default of Medium. Most of those items shouldn't have installed in the first place.
Thats not the problems guys. Microsoft added a built in messenger senderreceiver. I used to have the problem and I've found how to fix it.
Follow THese STEPS!:
For Windows XP Pro/Home users
2 options: 1 faster, 1 slower
Fast:
1) Go to Start>Run
2) type in 'Services.msc' WITHOUT the quotation marks
3) Scroll down to 'Messenger' service
4) Right click and go to properties
5) go to changeable window and choose 'Disabled'
6) Do for both tabbed sections 'Extended' and 'Standard'
Slower: (for dummies)
1) Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
2) Click Performance and Maintenance
3) Click Administrative Tools
4) Double click Services Scroll
down and highlight "Messenger"
5) Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
6) Click the STOP button.
7) Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
8) Click OK
Personally, I turned offdisabled both 'Messenger' services under the tabs 'Extended' and 'Standard'
This looks like a program running on your local PC. Just doing a quick Google search on netpaloffers, I got quite a few hits with people asking about the same problems you had. A lot of them have run HijackThis.exe to get an inventory of what's running on their PC and started deleting stuff. It's a tough call on what to delete though. You're definitely not alone with this problem. It might be time to hit some of the spyware or adware troubleshooting forums and get some advice there.
