Alright, here's the deal: My Internet Explorer always defaults to this stupid "Cool Search" homepage. Even when I load the page 'about:blank' it'll load the Cool Search page. When I try to check my email at yahoo.com, as soon as I click "Check My Mail" it'll load the page, then immediately go back to Cool Search. I can't even load the Windows Update page without this stupid thing sending me back.

I looked it up online and it's supposedly called the CoolWebSearch virus. I have all the symptoms described. I've tried all the spyware removal software, and followed all the directions given online on manually removing it (deleting files in the registry), but it still shows up!

WTF?!?!?!

 

I've done everything short of formatting the hard drives... I've uninstalled pretty much everything I don't need. Cleared the cache, all the temp internet files, cookies, and everything I can think of.

 

have you used ad-aware or spybot from www.download.com? they're very efficient.

It's not doing it right now, but it's sporadic like that. It's never done it from an s2ki.com page; it always seems like it's only when I try to check my email.

 

Is it possible there's another program running that keeps "reinstalling" this shit? I've shut down everything but the bare essentials, and startup only runs the basics, but iunno. I'm starting to get pissed.

 

My advice is to search the hard drive for the source of this worm or virus and delete it. Its main source is residing somewhere within your hard drive where it's producing whatever its parts you're deleting. Run a search for coolsearch or whatever its name may be and see what you can find.

I would argue that the JavaCools programs are essential to protect your computer. This along with an anti-virus and a firewall. SpywareGuard definately protects you from those nasty BHO's.

wow yeh I made a post on thisin AUG. I tried everything, d/l every program!!! It regenrates itself and keeps mutating every hour or day. Basically I deleted a bunch of shit and did crazy stuff, It hink it took me a week or so of this to get rid of it.

 

It's making me homicidal.
