Default Corvettes

Just sitting here pondering the Z06 at my local dealership (they want $43K for it) and I started wondering...
1. Does Chevy sell Corvettes outside of north america?
and 2. Are Corvettes even considered desirable cars outside of north america?
I tried to research this through the internet with no luck. I many places that import them to Europe and Australia (a used 2001 automatic vette goes for about $160,000 AUD or $83,000USD!!!) but nothing beyond that.
I figured since this is an international forum of car enthusiasts I should be able to get my answer here. I know many of us are partial to japanese sports cars so please try to be objective.
Thanks,
DDD

Good question....

On our Tokyo trip, I don't recall seeing a single Corvette there. In fact, we saw very few American cars, in general, there. I recall seeing a Road Master station wagon or two tho! I'm pretty sure that Corvettes are just sold in N. America for the most part. But the ones you would find overseas are imported by the person who bought it stateside...

Corvettes are mainly sold by Opel (General Motors) dealers in Germany.
We don't get the Z06 though .
I think a loaded new Corvette is just under 60k Euro, if you buy from an Opel dealer. A convertible is about 10k Euro more.
You'll probably pay less because the dealers tend to sell them for a few thousand Euro under sticker.
Used ones lose their value quite dramatically - they still got a pretty bad reputation over here.

Talking about Opel/General Motors...is the Opel Speedster available in the US?

It is based on Lotus Elise components, has a 4cyl Opel/GM engine and costs under 30k Euro.
I think I'll get one just for fun next season. It's such a bargain .

Unfortunately, no it isn't available here (I assume for the same reason the elise isn't here either, no 5mph bumper and not EPA compliant).

But I know of some dealers letting new 2001 Z06's go for less than MSRP, but that was a few months ago.
wow, a $5000 incentive, that's really good for only 6k miles.

MSRP for that car was $48k plus I'm sure there were random markups by the dealership. So for $43, I think that's a very good deal. I also heard that you can do some easy mods to that car to add some serious power.

I haven't seen ONE ZO6 here yet, and this is IRVINE, weird. I do see a million regular Vettes though. Also a purple pace car Vette. The only ZO6s I've seen are at AutoXs and one parked in my friend's parking lot. There's also an RX-7, Ferrari 328 and a bunch of other nice cars in this apartment complex.

I see 'em regularly on the 60 and the 10. I heard something like 20% of total vette production is the Z06 model. Doesn't sound like there will be any shortages. I'm a fan. Can't wait to see what they do for their 50th anniversary in 2003.
