Crap dental work.
Back story here. In July 2008 i was doing some dirt riding on a bmx bike, had helmet an pads on....but i came down on my chin after a crappy attempt to land a sizeable jump.
Anyways I ended up busting some teeth up pretty bad....needed/ing two root canals and crowns as well as repair work.
I only had $500 in my FSA for 2008 so I used that to start the work,I only opted for $1k in my 2009 FSA as my estimate was $1100 however after closer look additional damages were found...so i made it aware that I could only afford $1k in repairs and I would figure out how to get the rest of the money later. They verbally agreed to only do $1k of work.
So work started again in January ,well in February I get a bill for $1600 I explained to my Physician that I thought we agreed to stop at $1k doctor said" That was never noted in the paperwork" anyways he apologized for the mistake and offered to hold the additional $600 till 2010 if I needed to wait that long.
What really gets me is after all this money spent I expect quality workmanship, but in April i had a filling fall out I waited two weeks to repair it so I could do it with my bi-annual cleaning ,during the cleaning the hygienist chipped off another filling ,They repaired both chips.
In June I get a bill for another $230 ...was like WTF! how are they charging me to repair their work that failed in 3 months.
Early today I had a another filling fall out during lunch(chicken quesdilla)....I"m pretty much set on paying these bastards off and changing dental physicians. Is there No Guarantee of workmanship in this situation?
At least I learned my lesson and wear a mouthpiece when doing more than casual riding.

when it's something like that a dentist is only as good as the glue he uses
are you sure there fillings and not crowns, a few years ago i got hit with a softball and it chipped my tooth enough for me to need a root canal and have the tooth ground down so he could put a crown, around every 6 monthe i have to go and get a new crown and the gum burned back

I had 6 teeth damaged overall, 2 of them required root canals, one of the two was ground down and a crown put on, the other they removed the remaining piece of the tooth and I plan to have a surgeon put in a titanium post and than have the dentist build a crown for it.
The rest were fixed using bonding materials to reform the shape of the teeth,It just seems like an absolute racket that I've gotta worry about the bonding materials coming loose and than be expected to pay $200+ to fix it.
I avoid hard foods, don't chew gum or any sticky types of food..I don't expect them to last 20-50 years like porcelain or gold replacements but i do think they should last more than a few months.
Also from what has always been explains it takes alot force to knock a crown out,my dad has had his for 9 years with no problems and my aunts had one for 22 years an it has only fallen out twice.
Beanseff how do you afford a new crown every six months? mine cost me $800 and that's at 50% covered by my insurance and my Insurance only allows 3 crowns every 2 years. With all the work I've had done,I've maxed out certain things my insurance covers until 2011.

if he is going to keep charging you, switch dentists.
ALOT of dentists are a racket, and they know it.
then blast him on the internet so it shows up. but make sure it is the truth.
they can sue you now.
in the mean time, dont pay anything, and up your FSA for 2010 and pay it then.
Also, find out busy times for them and go in person to talk to them about all your stuff falling out so people waiting can hear.
do this several times but always stay civil. they should try to work with you.
P.S> i hate my dentist. they always somehow charge me $30-60 extra each visit even though they know exactly what insurance is going to pay, then they blame the insurance company. plus the hygenists keep asking me questions when i have a mouth full of cleaning crap in it WTF!!!

i had a crown come off a few days after a root canal while chewing bubblegum. my dentist reglued it using a different glue an hour after it happened. 3 years later it's still holding strong.

All this talk about drilling on teeth is making me cringe
My dentist is cool, he's a car guy like me. But that shit is PAINFUL. I think I have a tolerance to what they shoot in my mouth.. to do a filling it took 2 doses of shots (two shots each dose) and it still hurt like a mofo.

that sounds like a great deal, a root canal around here is like 1,500...but I guess you get what you pay for.
I'd switch....there will be (if there aren't already in certain areas) dentists that will replace or repair anything they are at fault for for up to a certain time period.
When you switch I'd ask if there is any sort of warranty for the work done.
