How the f$% do you invite 350-500 people to a wedding like some couples do!? That's the part I'll never understand. Trust me, there aren't 50 friends you know who really WANT to sit through a wedding except for the open bar afterward. It's you fault if you invite people who don't care and lure them in with the freebies. Include parents, grandparents, your sibblings and their families... that might be another 50 people.

As someone already said, tell anyone who sells flowers or food it's a wedding... they will double/triple their price.

yeah, that was my point. you said no one had fun except the wedding crashers. i was not a wedding crasher. for two of the weddings i flew out of the country. one cost me nearly 3 grand, and the other a little over 2 since i used miles. i don't see what that has to do w/anything?

i also said i didn't know whether or not *they* thought it was worth $25k. however, that day is for the couple to celebrate with their friends and relatives...so i'd say if we all had a good time then it was probably a success for them?

and again, i sure as hell hope i don't spend that much on my own wedding!

7-7-07 wedding here and we spent $45,000 for about 190 people in SF. Worth every penny :-)

Majority of the cost was the reception, photographer, and videographer. Its amazing how many little things pop up though

I've been second shooter for a lot of high end weddings over the past 12 years
One guy owns a MB dealership in newport beach, 450 guest and 200,000 for the wedding, $26,000 was photography
Another wedding groom had just sold off his .com company... he hired KC and sunshine band for 200 guest

There are some really RICH people in this world, share the wealth

$26,000 for just pictures?!

That's paparazzi levels!

30K for the average wedding doesn't surprise me when you see the levels of debt people are in from other things. And of course most of the cost is probably split between families.

People see other people getting married, and in certain areas of the country have to through the same pomp.

If you just scratch the surface, you'll see that it is insane, that these sorts of things cost so much, especially the engagement ring and such. And most likely I'll have to pay for all of this crap myself, for other people!

I'll say, you want a grand wedding YOU pay for it!

When you say that you want to keep it simple and memorable, people look at you funny, thinking you're just a tight ass.

(Yes, I will be getting married in the near future, and no I'm not that bitter. )
