Default Credit Dispute

Last month I was checking my fico score and noticed one fraud collection on my credit report. I already called the collectors and they will be sending me docs and stuff to fill out and file with my local police station. etc etc etc. My question is, is there a company that does this and clear things up so I don't need to call and be on hold over and over on the collection agency for a collection which I didn't even know about? Its just waste of energy, time chasing people down, I just want this record off my record. I don't mind paying a third party clearing this up.

Can someone recomment me to any third party comps?

Your credit won't be effected once the creditor places the hold on the account!!! So don't worry about it! Yes there are third party agencies that can clear this up to answer your question... I've had similiar activity on certain accounts made available to me. I reported fraud, they placed the hold... the creditor took action from that point forth... My FICO score was not affected.

FYI, the collection agency can't remove the fraudulent report from your credit report, all they can do is provide you with the proof you might need to get the credit bureaus to remove it. otherwise, your best bet is to get a copy of your credit report from all three credit bureaus (transunion, equifax and experian), then send in the dispute form that accompanys the credit report you received to each credit bureau that shows fraudulent or incorrect info. As for paying a 3rd party to do this for you, its your money, but a waste of it (IMHO) b/c it's so easy for you to do.

1. get reports from all three credit bureaus
2. dispute any erroneous/fraudulent submissions on those reports
3. wait to hear back from the credit bureaus

in order for a collection agency to put something like that on your report, they have to substaniate that their claim is legitimate, but most of the time this isn't checked by the bureaus b/c they have too much other fraud stuff/identity theft crap they're already dealing with, so that puts the burden to check it and have it removed on the shoulders of the consumer. i've been going through a very similiar type thing for over a year, so if there's anything more i can do to help, feel free to pm/email me or post here, i check the board everyday if i'm in town

good luck
