Default criminal conviction and one's professional career

i remember when i applied for various jobs they all asked on the application form whether you have been convicted before. now, i wonder if a criminal conviction can ruin one's career? how about a no contest plea? does one have to put down the no contest plea? would any of this affect one's ability to find a job?

It depends on how much dope you smoked. If you left a few brain cells intact it shouldn't be to hard to work out that you just gotta lie when applying for these jobs

But seriously. If you have some minor blur on your slate then I don't think it should be a problem unless you want to become a CHIPS officer or something.

Oh wait.. you do don't you? LOL. ..

Would a "no contest" result in a criminal record? If it does, then it will restrict you from many jobs, especially ones in public service like mine, police, etc.

Mingster,

I just saw on the news that the LAPD is hurting for people. They are actually asking their retirees to come back and work desk jobs for a year so the officers can go out on patrol.

I don't think that a no contest ruling would go against you as being a convict. Why are you asking??? Do you havea dark secret that your hiding

Many places of business will not hire felons. Some only look back 7 years, some look back for the lifetime. Getting a felony limits you. But it also depends on the type as well. Sexual assault of a minor is probably the worst. Any other tpe of assault is bad as well. Theft, Drugs and DWI are not nearly as bad. It definitely makes it harder and limits you in ways.

No one gives a damn about misdemeanors.

Yes .. and it's unfortunately a very unjust system. Many of today's youth are now criminals (in a legal sense) because they experimented with soft drugs in a culture where it's practically condoned everywhere the kid looks.

so you guys are saying like a non-violent felony conviction is basically the end of a person's career?

I think it sort of depends upon if the incident happened while you were employed, in which case it might be up to the discretion of your employer. If it happened before you got the job and they just discovered it after hiring you, this might be a more serious matter. OK, Richard, I'm curious now. Who did you almost not kill?

any felony conviction will hurt your prospects if an employer does a criminal report...depending on their subjectiveness.
