I guess that's one way to let everyone know you talk out your ass when you know nothing about a subject.

For the OP, Critical Mass is simply a monthly group bicycle ride open to anyone with a bike in the city. Some people hate America and the freedom it stands for and therefore oppose this kind of event.

Which would be a statement that is also pretty inaccurate since the whole point is "to create a "critical mass" of riders dense enough to occupy a piece of road to the exclusion of drivers of motorized vehicles."

There really has been quite a bit of controversy associated with it. I think Wiki has a pretty good and relatively unbiased article on it.

According to the laws in the USA, all it takes to occupy a piece of road to the exclusion of motorized traffic is one bicycle. But unless you have never ridden a bike or driven a car in this country, you know that no motorist will ever give a bicycle his own lane. So I find it a bit difficult to find sympathy for people who think bikers are somehow not obeying the rules.

Keep your f@#king car out of my lane or shut the hell up.

Not sure about where you live, but from Texas Transportation Code:
Sec. 545.363. MINIMUM SPEED REGULATIONS. (a) An operator may not drive so slowly as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law.
I'm generally courteous to bikers, but when they're intentionally trying to impede traffic just to make a point, then I feel no sympathy if something bad happens to them. And no, they don't have the right to do that. If they want to do organize a large group and subsequently impeded the normal flow of traffic, then they need to follow the same procedures that a parade would follow, including getting approval from the local government and working with them to ensure that necessary safety precautions are taken and impact to normal traffic is minimal.

Otherwise, they're just being assholes.

BTW... watching the video... that's not really the type of event that I'm referring to when talking about bikers "intentionally trying to impeded traffic just to make a point". It appears to be away from peak traffic hours, and not on a major highway/thoroughfare. There were a few riders 'misbehaving' (driving on the wrong side of the road, etc), but overall, it seemed reasonably civil.

I've been on a few bar-hop bike rides like that (with much fewer people), and it's all about having fun and being safe. We were always courteous to vehicular traffic and obeyed general traffic laws. I suspect that the group in the video were attempting to do the same (as well as they can when there are that many people involved). While I might get a little peeved if I was stuck behind them and couldn't get past, I don't think that group is a part of the 'eco-terrorist' mentality that NFRs2000NYC mentioned. They have my blessing to carry on.

In SF it's well-reported, and the motorists just take public transit a lot of the time (on the days announced).
I made some comments about this topic a while back. . .
. . .then I f@#king ranted like a pompous asshole.
