I find it ironic that none of the Critical Mass incidents with motorists occurred in Texas. Here, someone (most likely the biker) would get shot. We don't f@#k around with this kind of crap in Texas.

I had the good fortune of spending a long weekend in Austin back in August (shame you couldn't make it. . .). Now, I know Austin is a little off-kilter, but I still noticed a few things:
1. I could barely find room to walk during rush hour, let alone pilot a bike.
2. I would shoot myself if I tried to ride my bike in weather north of 105, especially in the Central Time Zone (or further East).
3. I wouldn't be surprised if a few cyclists pack heat despite those pesky weight gains.
4. I don't find Austin all that dense, and I can't imagine Houston being any more dense, so the crux of most of the CM folks is moot (if not bordering on silly).

I found plenty of secondary roads with nobody on them at certain hours because there are freeways. . . plenty of them, in fact. When you have lots of space, you find there's no problem sharing when it's occasional, not compulsory. So, don't attribute to firearms what can be easily attributed to heat and space.

Cyclists who are serious enough to be concerned about weight gains don't approve of critical mass. On most bicycling websites I visit there is very little support for it, and most threads about it get flamed and closed. Serious riders wear bright neon colored spandex and ride $8000 carbon fiber bikes - you don't see any of that at critical mass events because there are no serious cyclists participating.

Pack heat = carry a gun. When he says weight gain, he's referring to the additional weight that comes from carrying a gun.

Yup I got that - I'm just saying the cyclists who would be concerned about carrying the extra weight of a gun aren't the type in the critical mass videos.

Austin isn't typical Texas. Far from it.

1. Rush hour is already bad enough. If bicyclists are intentionally causing a traffic jam, there will be blood.
2. Weather is only bad for 3 months out of the year, the rest of the time it ranges between bearable and beatiful
3. Probably not. Participants in Critical Mass tend to fall into the stupid f@#king hippie category which also hates on guns when they're not too busy blocking traffic

I have no problem with bicyclists sharing the road with cars. What I do have a problem with are these eco-terrorists who intentionally cause traffic jams.

So apparently a terrorist is anyone who bombs subway platforms, flies planes into skyscrapers, and holds up traffic while you're on your way to KFC. God bless us Americans.
